Intelligent, quick and agile Szołtysik was able to enter into and control the rhythm of matches, this was especially visible in his matches for Zabrze where he seemed to operate on a special wavelength with Lubański, and almost telepathically distributed the ball, the spectacular plays that resulted from this sort of connection are still considered mythical among supporters. Gifted with fantastic intuition and cunning, was able to often fool defenders and keepers of his true intentions. Szołtysik always put football first, and placed paramount importance on the maintenance of his body, never drank or smoked, and never had sex before a match, as he considered it to be degrading to his on field performances, this Szołtysik insightfully contributes to him having two ex-wives. Nonetheless, this nature allowed him to have a career that was completely injury free! Szołtysik claimed that there is no other way he could have conducted himself in his obsessive search for great form, as he felt naturally obliged to the thousands of supporters who came to the stadium, from whom he was continually showered with affectionate gratitude off the pitch. Simply Szołtysik's massive popularity with fans cannot be overstated. A club legend for Górnik Zabrze, Szołtysik played football for 44 years, from 1956 till 1990, but he spent his best and most productive years with the Trójkolorowi. Aside from a season long stint at US Valenciennes in 1975, from 1962 to 1978, Szołtysik appeared in over 500 official matches for Górnik in all competitions, scoring 124 times. For Poland Szołtysik debuted in 1963 in a 9-0 crushing of Norway, scoring twice. He would receive 46 official caps all together, managing 10 goals. Would end his international career shortly after capturing gold in the Munich Olympiad. Honours Polish League: 1963, 1964, 1965, 1966, 1967, 1971, 1972 Polish Cup: 1965, 1968, 1969, 1970, 1971, 1972 Olympic Gold medal: 1972 Polish Footballer of the Year: 1971 Zygfryd SZOLTYSIK | 1971-1972 | PES Stats Database (Golden Era Backup)
