Coming from a famous Celtic family, Paul broke into Billy McNeill’s championship side in 1982 and remained a fixture for almost 15 years. The complete midfielder, Paul was always a class apart and inspired Celtic to the double in 1988, when he was named Scotland’s Player of the Year for his world-class performances. Despite interest from Italy and England, he remained a Celt for life and became captain in the early 1990s. In 1995, he guided Celtic to the Scottish Cup – the club’s first trophy for six years. He retired through injury soon after but will always be remembered as one of the best. Paul McStay, with almost 700 appearances for the club, is a true Celtic legend. Almost always in the right place at the right time. Defence: 55 - I admit, I haven't seen a full game of his, but judging from texts, he looks worthy of 55 (plus I've saw a few of his good sliding tackles). Body Balance: 78 - I can't see any proof of this player being extra strong. This value seems appropriate. Stamina: 87 - He run a lot during the game (based on some longer videos and texts). Top Speed: 77 & Acceleration: 78 - Not too fast, nor too slow. Response: 86 - Good game reading, combined with excellent reactions make this number justified. Agility: 84 - I've seen a few nice, quick turns and moves. I think 84 is the highest value we could go for. Dribble Accuracy: 78 & Dribble Speed: 72 - Not a master in this field, but also not that bad. I suggest DA: 80-82, DS: 76-78. Short Pass Accuracy: 90 & Short Pass Speed: 84 - One of his greatest advantages. Long, on the ground, at the right time passes. Long Pass Accuracy: 88 & Long Pass Speed: 84 - Quality cross passes that on many occasions meant that goal is inevitable. Shot Accuracy: 79 - Really good SA. His shots weren't too strong when he takes a bit of time to aim, and in most cases he scores (despite lack of power). Shot Power: 81 - Some of his shots looked like they deserve middle yellow values, other like they deserve high green values. We think 81 is fine. Shot Technique: 77 - He could score really tough shots (when blocked by other players and not seeing the keeper nor the goal). Free Kick Accuracy: 70 - Can't give precise judgement, as I never saw him taking a FK. 70 is given based on his shooting and passing. Swerve: 72 - He didn't put too much Curling on his shots, but I think 72 suit him very nicely (from what I saw). Header: 76 & Jump: 81 - Header is definitely worth of low green area. Jump is worth of low yellow area (a few good leaps can be seen in that video). Technique: 84 - Solid trapping skill. Aggression: 82 - Deserves low yellow numbers, mostly based on his side and/or midfield position switching. Mentality: 89 - He fought true the whole game and he was a true leader of his team. Also, he would sometimes (as far as I read) drop to the defence and help (especially with his sliding tackles). Team Work: 90 - Excellent reader of his teammates movement. Truly iconic player at Celtic. Injury Tolerance: A - Almost 700 games for Celtic, during his 16 year stay. Can't find any data about injuries (except ones at the very end of his career; after those injuries, he retired) Condition/Fitness/Form: 7 - 678 games in 16 seasons. WFA: 7 & WFF: 6 - Very good usage of his left foot. CARDS: P10: Box to Box - He was everywhere. In the attack he often switched sides and positions. Also trying to help defence as much as he could. P13: Long Ranger - He takes just a bit of space to try outside the box shot. He tried this very often. S01: Reaction - If he doesn't have the ball, he carefully follows his teammates movement and position himself very well, in order to trap and shoot after GK's save. S02: Passer - Already explained with SPA, SPS, LPA, LPS. S05: 1-touch play - If he has some room, he will try volley shot. He liked to make short assists from 1st touch (sometimes even with his heel). SPECIAL ABILITIES: *Reaction *Passing *Middle Shooting *1-Touch Pass *** If somebody else knows more about this player, feel free to suggest what should be fixed (especially about his FKA, Defence or other Special Abilities/Cards).
