At Feyenoord, Jansen won four League Championships, one Dutch Cup, and one UEFA Cup. He also won the European Cup in 1970 when Feyenoord defeated Celtic 2-1 in Milan. Jansen would later manage Celtic. He also won 65 international caps with the Netherlands and played in both of the Dutch sides that reached the 1974 and 1978 World Cup Finals. Jansen signed for the American side Washington Diplomats in 1980, but after playing 27 games for them, he returned to the Netherlands to sign for Ajax, by the advice of Johan Cruijff who played together with Jansen at the Washington Diplomats. Jansen should fill a gap in the defence of Ajax as libero after the departure of Krol summer 1980. Ajax being 8th after 13 rounds end November 1980, they finished 2nd just before number 3 FC Utrecht, June 1981. The next season 1981-1982 Ajax won with Jansen the Dutch championship. Feyenoord-fans didn't like former Feyenoord-player Jansen playing for their rivals Ajax: in his 1st match for Ajax, Feyenoord- Ajax (!) (4-2, 7 December 1980) a snowball was thrown at his eye and Jansen got off the field.
