He played as defensive midfielder and centre-back, in particular with Cruzeiro E.C. and the Brazilian national team. He won the World Cup 1970. Piazza has 66 caps (15 non official) with the Brazilian national team, his first one in 1967. He was a member of the Brazilian national team that won the World Cup 1970. He played also during the World Cup 1974.
