Contents [hide] Smart as well as efficient while defending, Rui Jorge knew well hot to support the team attack, getting good small pass sucession and easy mid-side crosses. Above all, he was extremely regular and a true professional, respect by for his balanced posture and strong personality. He started on Porto youth system, getting to be loaned on 1st season as a senior to Rio Ave, where he played under coach Inácio, who had been his youth coach on Porto and would be latar his coach on Sporting Clube de Portugal (SCP) winning the Championship. Finished the loan spell, he returned to FC Porto (FCP) and step by step gained his influence on the team's heart, getting to be part of the team that won 5 Championships (4 in a row), 2 Portugal Cup and 3 Supercups. He made his debut on the National Squad on the 20th April 1994, in a 0-0 friendly away game against Norway but only later in his career, already at SCP, he granted his regular place on the NT. He was part of the squad that reached a 4th place on the Olympic Games of 1996. On the 1997/98 season, seing few minutes of gameplay, he was involved in a mixed deal between SCP and FCP where he and Bino were swapped by Costinha and Peixe. He was the only one to suceed from this group. At SCP, he fastly assumed himself as a starting eleven choice on the left side of the defence, becoming an important part of the team that won the historic National Championship of 1999/00 ending a struggle of 18 years. He was then also starting eleven in the National Squad, playing on Eurocup 2000 and 2004 and in the World Cup of 2002, getting 43 out of his 45 International Caps while on SCP, where he would win 2 more Supercups and the ''Doublette'' of 2001/02. He was also part of the team that reached the Uefa Cup Final of 2005, staring on 12 out of the 15 games from that campaign, but failing to appear on that very same final in Alvalade XXI, his home stadium. He ended this way his brilliant passagre trough SCP, as he failed to renew his contract on that season ending. Depois de uma curta paragem, terminou a sua carreira de futebolista fazendo meia época no Belenenses, onde na temporada de 2006/07 iniciou uma nova fase da sua vida, agora como treinador dos juniores do ''Belém'' After a quick sabatic hermitage, he put an end to his futebolist career after his half season in Belenenses, where he started to coach the sub-21 team of this club, getting just recently to coach of the first team.
