The 1974 World Cup squad consisted of great players like Mwamba Kazadi , Mwepu Ilunga , Boba Lobila , Milamba N'Daye , Tshimen Bwanga , Etepe Kakoko , Uba Kembo Kembo and Mafu Kibonge. All these players were really great african players and they all had really cool names. Most people don't know this but Zaire was a very formiddable side in the 60's and as for the 1974 World Cup squad many people will tell the squad was horrible , I can assure you it was anything but... Zaire lost their first game to Scotland 2-0 , it was the first time that Zaire and the players of Zaire had ever experienced something so big. This meant that Zaire had to up their game against Yugoslavia , now we know they were thumped 9-0 , however before the game began the players of Zaire were told they weren't going to be paid and alot of the players then desided to not even bother with the game and that is exactly what happend , hense the 9-0 drubbing. In Zaire's last game against the mighty Brazil , the government of Zaire told the squad to not even bother coming back home if the Brazilians beat them by more than 3 goals. All the players felt the pressure and one of the moments that went down in history was when Zaire defender Mwepu Ilunga kicked the ball away from Roberto Rivelino when it was a Brazil free-kick. Mwepu Ilunga later said that he was so scared that the Brazilians would score again and that is why he did that. You can see that moment on youtube , just type Mwepu Ilunga _________________ forever and always - football Joseph KIBONGE Mafu | 1965-1970 | PES Stats Database (Golden Era Backup)
