This year he scored 10 goals, becoming one of the most offensive midfielders in Bundesliga. It was in this season that he helped Bremen to win the League-Cup double, a merit achieved by few. During his Bundesliga time, Micoud was one of France's best offensive midfielders, alongside Zidane, Pires and other usual players in Lamerre's or Santini's squads. His main assets were his set ball abilities (corners and free kicks) as well as his connection with his team-mates in midfield, serving them with great passes, from short or long distances, generally resulting in beautiful goals. He could hold the ball up pretty well, mainly due to his great physique and technichal qualities, specially when on the center of the field, an area he would dominate almost to perfection, resulting in a healthy relation with the ball, the one he blessed from time to time with the outside of his boot, another one of his most evident qualities. With NT he found himself under the shadow of one of the greates ever: Zinedine Zidane, so, as we all may imagine, this was influential in his development with Les Bleus, specially when a guy called Domenech took charge, a managaer that wouldn't call Johan and others because they were Leo in the Zodiac signs, and he said too many Leos in his team made his work harder, for example (as incredible as it may sound). So, his performances with French NT were quite ''grey''. Altogheter, he played 17 games, scoring 1 goal. Despite this, he was crowned Champion in EURO 2000, against Maldini's Italy. Micoud also participated in 2002 Korea-Japan finals, one of the darkest spots in Les Bleus history. Here he is, the tall, long-nose midfield talisman that belongs to that un-ending list of geniuses vanished in memory lane. Enjoy!
