He is also a former co-coach of the Serbia and Montenegro national football team. Ćurković was a goalie of outstanding quality who played for Saint-Étienne during the 1970s and early 1980s. Ćurković played alongside French legend Michel Platini, and together were instrumental in the successful runs of Étienne's football club to the top of the French League and to the finals of the European Cup in the 1975-76 season. Ivan Ćurković, former goalkeeper for Saint Etienne (France) and a member of FIFA's Technical and Development Committee, has been awarded the French Légion d'Honneur. In France, Saint Etienne captured the nation's imagination in the mid-Seventies with their impressive European adventures. Between the sticks for Les Verts at the time, the Serb Ćurković was one of their outstanding performers. He was recently presented with the Légion d'Honneur, France's highest award, by his former team-mate Michel Platini, on behalf of French President Jacques Chirac. In his speech, Platini recalled how Ćurković ''is a legendary figure in France and represents a fine example of fair play.'' Ćurković is currently a member of the FIFA Technical and Development Committee, of which Platini is the chairman. The ceremony was also attended by Boris Tadić, the President of Serbia. ********** In my opinion Ćurković is among 5 best post WWII goalkeepers in ex-Yugoslavia and second best in Partizan Belgrade history. He played 427 games for Partizan in 1964/1972 period. He has became first-choice GK when Šoškić left Partizan, after 1965/1966 season (in 1964/1966 period Ćurković was first-choice GK in 41 matches).
