Anquilletti arrived at Milan along with Schnellinger and Rosato to resolve Milan's problem of allowing the opposition too many goals. When Rocco returnd to coach Milan, the defence soon became a fortress, with Anquilletti being a pillar of strength. He was extremely reliable and remained injury free, allowing constant performances of a high order. Anquilletti remained at Milan until retirement, consigning his position to promising youngster Fulvio Collovati.
