Zeki was the first player to score his nations first ever goal , a match against Romania on the 26th of October 1923. Possessed an incredibly cultured left foot , he could score from any angle and almost at will , however hated headering a ball. How about this for a goal scoring record... Capped 16 times for Turkey and scoring 15 goals , or even better still , played 332 games for Fenerbahce and scored 470 goals , simply amazing. I know Hakan Sukur is Turkey’s all time leading goal scorer , but then again he had the chance to play more games and played in a completely different era. In my eyes I don’t think there will ever be another talent like Zeki Riza Sporel in Turkish football ever again and he gets my vote as Turkey’s greatest ever footballer.
