He was a member of the Dutch team at the 1994 FIFA World Cup, which was eliminated by the later champions Brazil. Valckx made his debut for Holland on September 26, 1990, in a friendly against Italy (0–0). He played for VVV Venlo (1983–88), PSV Eindhoven (1988–92), Sporting Lisbon (1992–95), PSV Eindhoven (1995–2000). After his career he started to work as a technical manager with PSV. In January 2009, he joined Chinese club Shanghai Shenhua as technical director. This very interesting central defender stood out by his perception and reading of play, tackling and the way he grabbed the ball to start the team's attacks, which led him to sometimes play as a defense midfielder. The dutch player, born in Arcen, formed himself as a player on two clubs: RKDEV where he stayed little and VVV-Venlo where he completed his youth career. With only 20 years he made his debut on the first team, getting to play 15 times. The next season, the team stteped into the main division of Holland, where Valckx played 34 times scoring 3 times, giving his contribution to mantain the club among the elite - 13th place out of 18. Season 1986/87 which followed say him confirming his status of young promise, as he played 31 games scoring 6 times, seeing VVV reach 5th place, which they would repeat the very next season, and Valckx was also there again, scoring 4 times in 32 games. Next season, Valkcx is hired by PSV where he wons the Championship, he made an efficient partnership with Ronald Koeman, playing 32 times but letting the scoresheet to be fullfiled by his sector companion. As a side note, the underdog VVV-Venlo gets to be relegated this season, probably feeling the effects of Stan's departure. After that Koeman goes to Barcelona and PSV gets runner up on the Championship behind rivals Ajax, with Valckx playing 24 games and scoring one time, his first goal for PSV. The next season started with the right foot, by being summoned for the first time for the National Squad, being the NT coach Leo Beenhakker. It was on the 26th Septemeber 1990. In whta concerns club matters, PSV won the title this time with the same points as Ajax but with a better goal average (Romário was playing there by this time). Valckx played 31 games, making a solid partnersip with new arrival Popescu. In 1991/92 PSV wins the title again, and Valkx remains a solid first choice as he plays 28 times scoring 4 goals. By the summer of 1992, Sporting Clube de Portugal (SCP) get to hire former PSV coach Bobby Robson and with him comes Valckx, assuming himslef as a starting eleven permanent choice and convincing the fans of his tireless efforts and quality game. He plays 40 times scoring 4 goals the first season on SCP. The next season - 1993/94 - Valckx gets to play 42 times scoring on two occasions. He gets to wear the captain rank one time, as he was highly regarded as a solid and charismatic man, apart from his qualities as a player- This year Valckx is probably at his peek and is summoned to the World Cup 1994, where dutch NT reached quarters final, being eliminated by Brasil for 3-2. He just didn't play on the first game (victory against South Arabia) getting on the first eleven on all the other games the Orange team played that tournament. The next season he departs back home, after 8 games on SCP (6 of them playing as defensive midfielder), returning to PSV, playing 27 times and scoring 3 times. His defence mate at this time was Numan. Next season 1996/97, sided with Jaap Stam, he plays 31 times scoring one goal, PSV is not champion getting behind Ajax for years in a row. But the next season, the last one that Valckx is absolute first team choice, PSV gets to reach the title, and Stan plays 29 times scoring one goal. The following 3 seasons see him playing less - 16, 2 and only one game on his last season - getting to celebrate the title one more time in the 1999/00 campaign. After retiring, he was appointed as Technical Director inside PSV. http://www.youtube.com/v/7VxGuJ7x3Ic (highlights from SCP time) SCP All Stars : club-all-star-teams/sporting-clube-portugal-all-stars-t7374.html _________________ When the seagulls follow the trawler, it is because they think sardines will be thrown into the sea.
