Eusebio wasn’t the only great player to come out of Mozambique and then play for Portugal. The player simply known as Matateu had arrived to the football stage before the great Eusebio. Having played 27 times for Portugal and scoring 13 goals in the process , he averaged one goal ever second game. Matateu played very much like Eusebio. Great speed , good ball control and had a powerful shot. I wonder what it would have been like if these two players got the chance to team up together , a match made in heaven most probably. Matateu also had a younger brother called Vicente Lucas who was born 24 September 1935 and was an accomplished centre-back for both Portugal and his club Belenenses. Many believe that Matateu was a better footballer than Eusebio , same go so far as to say he was finest footballer ever , I'll let you deside that one. _________________ forever and always - football Sebastiao Fonseca — "MATATEU" | 1950-1955 | PES Stats Database (Golden Era Backup)
