His foreign career started at Besiktas, where his success soon was noted by Sir Alex Ferguson. He joined Utd in 1996 where he won 4 league medals and a host of other medals. In 2002 he joined Villa and later on had a short spell at Newcastle. He's spent the last seasons at Valerenga, and had his last professional season there in 2008. Ronny's main strength was his tremendous pace, but as many other speedsters his career was riddled with injuries which not only hampered his development but also took a bit off his pace. His qualities on the ball gave him some appearances as a DM, most notably against Juventus in 99 where he took Zidane out of the game completely. Utd won the game and later on went on to win the CL. But Johnsen was first and foremost a CB, he was an ideal partner to Stam with his ability to catch up with the fastest of attackers, but he was also good at reading the game.
