Renato Portaluppi, aka Gaucho o or Pube de oro (golden pube) was certainly right. For all Roma's supporters (and for the joy of more than one chick), his short period playing with red-yellow jersey in the italian capital is in the history of football. And for sure not for his very few goals scored (0 in the Serie A on 23 caps, 3 in Coppa Italia and 1 in Uefa Cup) but rather for his fame as blatant playboy as no other player ever had. The above phrase was a warning and a real sentence. Bad habits, temptations and fantasies (erotic, not of football) of Renato Portaluppi increased remarkably when he met Diego Maradona (who at that time started his wost period of his life outside football) and got involved in his lustful and sinful surround. Renato took the advantage and the rest of the his season he just tiringly carried away his role of football player, with training being the last of his thoughts. Renato started his career in Esportivo in Bento Gonçalves where he grew up. He was later signed with Grêmio, where in 1983 he won the Libertadores Cup, beating Peñarol of Uruguay, and the Intercontinental Cup, beating Hamburger SV of Germany, and scoring twice. In 1986 he moved to Flamengo and won the National Championship in the following year. Then in 1988 Renato moved abroad, signing with A.S. Roma. However, he failed to settle in Italy and returned to Flamengo after only one disappointing season, in time to win one more trophy, the Brazil Cup, in 1990. Renato's career in Fluminense is generally associated to his belly goal in the Campeonato Carioca of 1995, against Flamengo, in the year when Flamengo celebrated 100 years. With his goal he was crowned the King of Rio in that year. In the same year, he lead Flu to the semi-finals of the Brazilian Championship. Renato Gaúcho appeared 43 times for the Brazilian national team, scoring four goals. In 1986 while playing for Brazil, he was thrown out of the squad for being out late. As a result, teammate Leandro also withdrew from the team. RENATO "GAUCHO" | 1988-1989 | PES Stats Database (Golden Era Backup)
