He was a hard tackling midfielder who, while known for his tenacity and tackling ability, was also an extremely accurate passer, creating chances for attacking players such as Bobby Charlton and George Best. It was once said that while United had Best, Law and Charlton, an in-form Paddy was the heartbeat of the team. Paddy was never the fastest player. His vision, anticipation and sublime passing skills rendered lack of pace irrelevant. Paddy was able to play, and often dictate proceeding, in his own time. His movement on the field was hardly reminiscent of a gazelle, but fans and team-mates could live with that. As for his ability in the air, well, it's true he occasionally dumbfounded his colleagues by heading the ball twice in a match ..... And goals. He didn't often supply the finishing touch but, in his heyday, the majority of United's successful strikes were due in some measure to his remarkable talents. The Fiery Glaswegian, allowed his temper to get the better of him at times and occasionally he landed in trouble with referees. Indeed, it's been said that he never moved so fast as when headed for a melee 40 yards away! But his fiery nature was as much a part of Crerand the player as Crerand the man. It would be hard to find a United follower who would have wanted him any other way. Today, he appears regularly on MUTV, Manchester United's television channel, as a co-commentator on its coverage of all Manchester United first-team matches, as well as appearing as a pundit on the phone-in show Crerand and Bower...In Extra Time. Crerand is even fondly recognised by younger United fans today since his humorously biased commentary during United matches allows him to maintain his cult status amongst all connected to United at Old Trafford. _________________ Alan Hansen wrote: How come Liverpool games are on last at the moment?
