He's regarded as one of the best players of all times for his country, with huge dribbling abilities, combined with pace, agility and good scoring records. He was well known for a play called the ''latigazo'' (the whiplash) witch consisted in an spectacular Robben-like turn from the outside of the field to the centre and smashing the ball in, with a powefull shot (another one of his greatest assets), it hardly ever failed, regardless of wich feet he used, he was totally two-footed, what also allowed him to play on both sides. He scored 14 goals in 26 matches for the Peruvian NT and is one of their top scorer in the prestigious Copa America, where he scored 10 goals, including 6 in the 1955 finals, becoming second top scorer of the tornament, ending 3rd in three ocasions. In his club career hi won 3 Peruvian leagues, all of them with Alianza Lima, the team that he represented for over 8 years. He passed away last year, due to a cancer affliction, but his legacy contributed to other legend's inspiration to grow, such as the great Teofilo Cubillas.
