Laursen has made just 24 appearances for Aston Villa after suffering long term injury problems, came back into the side last season and produced some solid performances and the team's results improved with him in the side. Going into the new season with confidence and expected to remain as a first team regular, Laursen is a consistent perfromer at international level and has won 42 caps for Denmark. EXPLANATION: Defence & Response Positionally, he isn't great. He can get caught out quite often and only wins back the ball due to decent Acceleration and his Response. Quite frankly, he's comparable to Kolo Toure in positional ability. That said, whilst his positional sense is lacking, his tackles are accurate and I believe that's enough to warrant a decent value. As for Response, will he reacts very quickly and has a superb reading of the game. He times his tackles well and scarcely makes a foul through mistiming, another Area where he's comparable to Kolo Toure. Acceleration Now, a common misconception about Martin Laursen is that he is a slow defender. That simply isn't true, he can actually build up pace quite quickly. Just look at the game against Everton last season, he won the ball off of Andy Johnson after being 4 or so yards behind him. And we all know how fast Johnson is! Header & Jump One of the best in the Premier League, without a shadow of a doubt. He wins absolutely everything in the air with his immense leap and superb heading ability. It makes him a true danger from set-pieces, although that is a scarcity considering how often he just sits back covering. It's only because he's at Aston Villa that he doesn't get as much recognition in this area as Nemanja Vidic Condition Played every single game last season for Aston Villa. 'Nuff said Marking A great man marker, he sticks to them like glue and can completely keep them out of the game. Example? 2002 FIFA World Cup, he marked Zinedine Zidane out of the game and Denmark won 2-0 Updated with GoonerLover's stats Martin LAURSEN | 2007-2009 | PES Stats Database (Golden Era Backup)
