His performances through 1965/1966 ECC campaign were pretty good and constant. He started his senior career in 1961/1962 and played only 6 games in that season. From 1962/1963 season he became regular first squad member and he played 512 games and scored 9 goals during 1961/1970 period (with friendlies, by official Partizan Belgrade statistic). He has played 6 matches for Yugoslavian national team. His primary position was center-half but he was often rotated to other positions, like wing-half or full-back. It was really amazing that he could play so successfully on a few positions being just 21-22 years old. Mihajlović could answer all those tasks because he had great defensive positioning, combined with very good game reading and heading ability. He used all those abilities when played as full-back or wing-half, but he also combined them with decent speed and passing ability. At the end of the last century French daily newspaper devoted to sports, ''L'Equipe'', putted Mihajlovic in Olympique Lyonnais greatest team of all times.
