With his lightning-quick reactions he was a fearsome keeper to meet for any striker finding himself alone in the box. Høgh initially travelled to Mexico '86 as third choice behind Troels Rasmussen and Ole Qvist, but as Ole Qvist fell ill before the group stage and Troels Rasmussen then had two shaky displays against Uruguay and Scotland, Høgh was brought in for the final group game against West Germany only to play an absolute belter of a game with several fantastic reflex saves. So great was his performance that Franz Beckenbauer (then coach of the West German Nationalelf) declared him as the main factor in Denmark's 2-0 victory. Høgh went through the strange 5-1 defeat to Spain largely without taking any blame as he was without chance at any of Spain's five strikes. After the World Cup, Høgh played a further few games for the national team as one of many understudies during Peter Schmeichel's complete and utter reign as the nation's best goalkeeper. He still continued to be OB's first-choice goalkeeper all the way until 2000. An unbelievably good performance against Real Madrid in 1995, preventing any goals being scored against him in the midst of a swarm of attempts from Los Marenques while OB sensationally scored twice to win 2-0 and sent out Madrid, stands as his greatest individual achievement of his long career along with the game against West Germany and five titles as the Danish goalkeeper of the year ('86, '89, '91, '93, '94). He also managed to win three cup and league titles with OB and he is rightfully revered as one of their all-time greats. _________________ I am probably not going to be on this forum very much anymore - but send me a PM if you have any requst or enquiry and I will be notified.
