Nicknamed ''El Loco'' he is the only Zaragoza player to have won the ''Pichichi Trophy'' (1961-62 La Liga). He played for several clubs, notably Spanish clubs Real Zaragoza and FC Barcelona, Sporting Lisbon of Portugal, as well as Italian club Fiorentina. He also won the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup 1965-66 with FC Barcelona. Quote: Seminario started his career in 1954 playing for Deportivo Municipal where he played until 1959. During this time he made 19 appearances for the Peru national team. On May 17, 1959 he scored a hat-trick against England. Peru win 4-1, in Lima[2] In 1959 he moved to Europe, joining Sporting Lisbon of Portugal, where he would play 50 matches and score 21 goals, very being recognized and being nicknamed O expresso do Lima [3] In 1961 he moved on to join Real Zaragoza in Spain where he became the top scorer in La Liga (with 25 goals in 30 matches) for the 1961-62 season. Before he was sold to Italy, he would play 8 matches and score 8 goals in the Zaragoza. In 1963 he joined Fiorentina of Italy before returning to Spain in 1964 to play for Barcelona where he was part of the squad that won the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup in 1965-66. He later had a spell with Sabadell before returning to Peru in 1969 to play for Atlético Grau. Juan Seminário was the first great foreign player of Sporting Clube de Portugal (SCP). Nicknamed ''El Loco'' (as nowdays almost 1 out of 3 players from south america, specially the uruguayns) was playing in Municipal de Lima when, with just 20 years, he got capped for his National Team. His main qualities as a player were his sharp technique gathered with a proficient finishing skill, which granted him a second nickname ''O Expresso de Lima'' (The Lima Express), after scoring an hattrick against England and two against Brasil, when he formed one of the best ever attacking lines of Peruan Football . Desired by Europe big sharks, Seminário was forbidden the move to Spain due to a complex disput for his signature between Barcelona and Saragoça. SCP seized the opportunity to hire him, and on the 10th Octuber of 1959 was presentend in Alvalade under the close look of 40 000 fans, making his debut only 15 days after against Belenenses. Despite playing only 2 seasons at SCP, and winning no titles, specially at a time that the memory of the amazing 5 Violines was still alive, he charmed the supporters with his virtuosism and his amazing playings, in a way that when he was to departure there was a major gathering at the SCP headquarters to claim against that decision. But the transfer to Saragoça was settled, and right on his first season in Spain, Seminário was the top scorer (El Pichichi) of the spanish league with 25 goals (for the record, Puskas was the top scorer the 2 years before and the 2 years after), being the only player from that club achieving that deed ever. The following season he was already with 8 games scoring 8 goals when he was transfered to Fiorentina in one of the biggest transfers of those times, returning 2 years after to finally play on Barcelona, where he helped the club winning the former Uefa Cup in 1966, scoring something like 50 goals on 100 games during the seasons he spent on Camp Nou. Before returning to Peru where he finished his carrer on his homeland club - Atlético Grau - he still played two seasons on Sabadell. sidenotes: speaking with some elders who really saw him playing (on SCP), they told me he was the complete star of the season, arrived at Lisbon already marked with the Barcelona/Saragoça issue on him and everybody expected him to do much. And he did since he was really better than the usual player of the time, dribbling a lot with class and, specially, scoring goals which was never a quality that walks together with great wingers. That's why he could play as a winger or a striker. My dad even told me he only liked to play on sunnydays, adopting a more relaxed and not focused attitude on rainny days.
