He started at Oriental, but it was on CUF that he emerged, being summoned to the National Team where he made his debut in 19 March of 1961, in a game against Luxembur to the WC 1962 qualifiers. It was on that same year that he was transfered to SCP, where he imediately gained his place in the starting 11, making a perfect match with Alexandre Baptista in the center of the Leonine Defence. He played 11 seasons at SCP, winning 3 times the National Championship, 4 times the Portuguese Cup and was part of the team that won the Cup's Winners Cup in 1964 where he achieved the status of cornerstone of SCP. For the record, he was highly considered by the very demanding British Press specially on the famous game against Man Utd (the 5-0 after loosing 4-1 at Old Trafford) where he completelly nullified Sir Bobby Charlton. By that time, he was already part of the National Team starting 11, which he represented for 36 times, being part of the 1966 WC Team who got 3rd place, but he only played the last 2 games. PS: I guess that the only stat that can origin some discussion will be BB=95. I've done quite a research and spoke with my father who told me this guy was pretty tough and ruthless. And also he needs a strong value to since he is actually small for a central defender. Please check this link also, you'll see that despite his average height he looked quite strong. http://pfutebol.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=53&t=5528 (on the third last picture - the one from the team - he is the standing guy on the right side) SCP All Stars : club-all-star-teams/sporting-clube-portugal-all-stars-t7374.html _________________ When the seagulls follow the trawler, it is because they think sardines will be thrown into the sea.
