Nor will they say Wright & Bergkamp. No, they will say Kennedy & Radford, especially in the 70/71 season where together they amassed a total of 46 goals. John Radford possessed all the qualities required by a centre forward, combining strength and the ability to hold off and turn defenders with subtlety in possession and speed of thought. For a big man he was no slouch either. When Arsenal clinched that first ''double'' in 1971, one of they key factors behind the Club's success was the forward pairing of Radford and rookie striker Ray Kennedy, who would no doubt give huge credit to his more experienced partner for nurshing him through his inaugural season. Thrust together as a makesifty partnership only as a result of an njury to John's regular partner Charlie George, Radford and Kennedy were to remain in tandem even after George regained fitness, by which time tgere partbership was well on the way to a joint total of 46 League and Cup goals. Kennedy claimed the majority of those goals but the plaudits were shared as Radford's pace, power, mobility and intelligent use of the ball came to the fore. Before Ian Wright burst on to the scene, Radford's career tally was second only to that of Cliff Bastin! _________________ GoonerLover66 wrote: PMC wrote: I know that Gooner, S-Jsomething and somebody else don't like me but pls play fair :( That's news to me, I've always liked you.
