In 1954 he signed twice a contract, firstly with Caldas, seduced by a good fee and after with Benfica, that had put pressure on Estoril with whom they had already everything settled. He got suspended for a year, but saw his penalty halved by amnesty and got to turn a free agent. He went to Torrense which was playing at the time on the 1st Division (in Portugal 1st Division is the main championship) where he shined so brightly that Sporting Clube de Portugal (SCP) signed him in 1958. Under the supervision of uruguayn coach Enrique Fernandez he made his debut, performing a good season as a left winger, his prefered position, even if he played often on the right field. On the next 2 following seasons he didn't play so many times and got to experience more defensive positions, which he didn't like and there was a time he invented an excuse to don't play defense and got banned from a tour SCP was doint at the time. In the 1961/62 season, under coach Juca, he claimed a first eleven place on the left side of the attack and turned out as the most capped player that year and one of the team best scorers in a team that won the National Championship. It was his first title. The following season was even better, he scored 24 goals heavily contributting to the conquest of the Portugal Cup, which allowed SCP to enter next year Cups Winners Cup, where Morais would grant forever his place on SCP History. Even he was regulary capped for the starting eleven, the 1963/64 season wasn't so positive as the ones just before, as he was adapting himself to the change of winger to sideback, and he wasn't even to be in the starting eleven of the Final of the Cups Winners Cup. It was when Hilário suffered a bad injury in a championship match just before the departure to Belgium and Morais, who was seing that game from the stands, was summoned at last hour to travel with the team. He played on that final with the task of marking the dangerous Sandor. The game finished tied, and due to the injury of the brasilian Bé Morais, he got to play again as a left winger in the Super Final. Meanwhile, after knowing that he was to play as a left winger by the coach Anselmo Fernandez, he imposed himself in a stubborn way as the corner taker, to atempt the scoring of a direct corner, with which he had dream the night before. At the 19th minute he got his chance: he grabbed the ball, gave it a kiss and some friendly words and fulfilled his dream, giving origin to the expression ''O Cantinho do Morais'' (traslated as The Sweet Corner of Morais'' which popular portuguese singer Maria José Valério forever imortalized with a song. In the season of 1965/66 we got to be Champion again for SCP, but now as a right sideback, and it was on this position he got summoned to the National Squad, playing 3 games on the World Cup of 1966 which Portugal granted an honorable 3rd place. Morais got the fame of injurying Pelé, in a game where the brasilian star was shaodowed by Morais. After, Pelé admited he went to that game already with an injury. In 1969, already with 34 years, he left SCP, playing a year on South Africa and returning to Portugal to finish his career in Rio Ave, where he also got to be coach. He played 255 games for SCP, scoring 66 goals. Morais is the scorer of, probably, the most singular goal in SCP History.
