Jack Kelsey is arguably one of the best Welsh goalkeepers of all time, others would say Neville Southall but to be honest I'd go with Kelsey. Now, Kelsey was Wales' goalkeeper during their successful period in the 50's where they played in several world cups and he also happened to be one of the best goalkeepers in Arsenal's history. So what was so great about him? Well firstly, he was renowned for his ability to pluck crosses from the air and his calm, assured positioning. His positional sense was ahead of its time. In fact, it was due to this that Arsenal didn't concede many goals in a period when the team was of only moderate quality. Another aspect of his play was his strength, he was tall, strong and brave but this caused him many injuries, the worst example of this was when he saved at the feet of the Brazil player Vavá, he sustained a serious back injury which forced him to retire. His best aspect was his handling. He had hands like dinner plates and his handling was second to none! Which is pretty damn good when you realised that he didn't use gloves! He was also prepared to venture beyond his penalty box to clear up any potential threat from the opposition - something that was unheard of at the time. He had a fantastic physique and could his own against the likes of Nat Lofthouse and other centre forwards who thought nothing of barging a goalkeeper into the back of the net. _________________ GoonerLover66 wrote: PMC wrote: I know that Gooner, S-Jsomething and somebody else don't like me but pls play fair :( That's news to me, I've always liked you.
