Dirceu Lopes collected titles, goals and awards in the 1960 and 1970 - Mineiro juvenile champion in 1964 and Mineiro champion 1965-1969, winner of the Brazil Cup in 1966 and champion of Rio Branco with the Brazilian team in 1967, top scorer in 1966 Mineiro (18 goals); Mineiro champion 1972-1975, vice-champion Brazil in 1974 and 1975, elected the best midfielder of the national championships in 1970, 1971 and 1973. With Saldanha in charge of the Brazil NT, Dirceu Lopes was in the team for the World Cup of 1970 in Mexico, but was cut by new coach Zagalo, who claimed to be already ''too many players in his position'' at the National Team. With his 1.62 m, the ''Baixinho'' played as a starter 12 years when he played for Cruzeiro. Skillful and fast, the main characteristic was the start in midfield with the ball secured to the penalty area, beating his marker with disconcerting dribbles. Such tricks littered the opposing defenses and opened spaces for his forwards or so for himself, because he kicked very well placed, with force and precision.
