At age 21, he was already a first team regular and showed his great ability in the centre of defence. O'Leary is now known for his successful reign at Leeds United as manager, and his less successful regin at Aston Villa. Nonetheless, O'Leary was definitely one of the great CB's we've had and I'd personally rank him higher than Sol Campbell in the all-time list. So, what sort of player was he? His composure, both as a defender and when in possession of the ball, was exemplary, as was his reading of the game, he did everything possible to avoid last-ditch tackles. Instead, he'd intercept when others might stand off, and he would always look to joceky opponents away from the danger zone rather than dive in. Of course, when required to make a dramatic dash, David revealed a deceptive turn of pace. There is, however, no denying David O'Leary's quality as a footballer and as a leader. O'Leary was a good communicator but not in the forceful manner of McLintock or Adams. He was a great passer and showed great calmness on the ball. He was more of a European style player than British, never looked aggressive but got the job done. _________________ GoonerLover66 wrote: PMC wrote: I know that Gooner, S-Jsomething and somebody else don't like me but pls play fair :( That's news to me, I've always liked you.
