McClair was one of the more prolific strikers in Utd's history. His reputation grew quickly in Scotland in the 80's, first at Motherwell and later at Celtic where he was later signed. He managed to score 99 goals in 145 matches for the ''Bhoys'' before SAF brought him to Old Trafford where he played 355 matches, scoring 88 goals, he had to share the spoils with others. Currently he's the academy director at Utd, IMO an outside candidate to succeed SAF, wishful thinking I know, but how many other professional footballers have you heard of that has a mathematical degree at Uni? That's more than qualified in my book Edit: I've adjusted him to fit with the Utd squad from 93/94. When Cantona joined Utd, McClair was given the option to leave or become a squad player. He chose to stay and spent most of the rest of his career as a deputy as a CM or SS. As a midfielder he was all about chasing opponents down and was actually rather good at nullifying opponents. He was even used in the CWC final in 1991 to chase down their offensive midfielders, he clearly had the football brain to change positions. But as he was more of an all rounder rather than possessing any extreme qualities (apart from reading the game or his anticipation), his impact on the team waned as the years passed by. About the stats: As he was a former fox in the box I found it hard to downgrade his ATT too much, especially as he also covered for the regulars in attack. I've upped his passing a bit, but not by much. He was economical but rarely adventurous. I've kept his shooting stats rather high for above mentioned reasons. His MEN and AGG is a bit tricky though, his main force as a midfielder was reading the game and harassing the opponent's midfield. I find him a bit difficult to rate since he played in three different positions, so I've tried to rate him mostly as a midfielder since he featured there the most. I don't know how well I've succeeded so comments are very welcome. _________________ Persona non grata Brian MCCLAIR | 1993-1994 | PES Stats Database (Golden Era Backup)
