Like no other, Oliveira had a frightening intimacy with the ball and she followed him to all whims. The way he lead it, usually with the outside of the foot, was unique and his passes and shots, filled with amazing effects, caused devastating situations for the opponents and provided glorious moments in front of goal for his partners. Unfortunately for football, but perhaps fortunately for himself, António Oliveira never took the profession completely seriously. His first years at FC Porto, were marked by irregularities in his exhibitions. Only after completing 23 years that he assumed himself as the genius of a group that sought to end a long period of 20 years without winning the National Championship. So Oliveira was amazing! He was the great master of a new FC Porto who dominated the Portuguese football and began to assert itself as one of the big teams in Europe. A famous victory against Manchester United by 4-1, made him palatable a player to the largest foreign clubs. There were several opportunities, but Oliveira decided for Betis de Sevilla. But he couldn't take the distance world and the experience ended after only six months. On the Portuguese National Team he has never won his real space as a player and would have to wait for a few years to, as Head Couach, enter the history of the 'team of all of us’. 24 caps is really little for a player of his immense size, but Oliveira has also suffered with the climat of indefenition that, at the time, soaked the NT. Solidarity with the removal of technical Pedroto from FC Porto, António Oliveira went to Penafiel where he started a career as player-coach for just over a year. From there he roamed to Alvalade where, in 1981 and 1982 seasons made dazzling displays with the most extraordinary moments seen in a Portuguese player. He was player-coach at Sporting until deciding for ending his career and dedicate himself to the role of head coach, in which obtained his major successes (he was of of the manages that lead FC Porto to his (until last year) fist Tetra (four times National Champion in a row). Honours • Portuguese League 1977/78, 1978/79, 1981/82, • Portuguese Cup 1976/77, 1981/82, • Portuguese SuperCup 1981/82 • Portuguese Footballer of the Year 1977/78, 1980/81, 1981/82 • 200 matches and 70 goals for Porto _________________ ''My heart only has one colour: Blue and White!!
