Was a classic fullback who specialised in quality defending first, and in Szymanowski's case, second and third, and in a distant forth would elect to join the attack. Yet he was forced to modify his game over time, and by the 1978 World Cup was considered to be a more complete fullback, who was also a capable center half and libero. Szymanowski was a Wisła Kraków youth product, that spent 10 seasons (barring a year long loan spell with Gwardia Warszawa) with Wisła, making 201 league appearences (one goal) and winning the Polish league title in 1978. After this, moved to Gwardia Warszawa for two and a half seasons with mixed personal success, before joining Club Brugge K.V. for three seasons, making 50 appearences before retiring. Was Poland's first choice right back for 10 years and through 4 diffrent coaches (despite conflicts with Gmoch and Piechniczek; Szymanowski was a very ''opinionated'' individual). Made 82 appearences with one goal. Won gold and silver in the 1972 and 1976 Olympics. ^I think he only played as a libero around 1978, but I am not making antoher version. Yet if another person has seen him more in 1978 please feel free to PM me or post a version from then, when he was considered to be an actual threat coming forward. :P As in 74 all he did was 'patrol' the right side of his own 18-yard box.
